Hey. So...
Nobody seems to have done the readings, which BWall wasn't so happy about. Now, I've never known him to be malicious on exams - he's not lying when he says the questions are pretty open and are an opportunity to take what you've learned and play with it.
But he did seem a little upset about the lack of readings, so I was thinking it would be a good idea to split them up and trade some concise summaries.
Who's in?

Ok talked to a couple people and it sounds like this is a go. I've got 3 exams to write before this one so if someone else could take the reins on this one in terms of how to break it up that'd be super. I've done all the O'Pray readings, maybe that can be my share? But I can do some other stuff too if that's not enough (depending on how many people are in on this... O'Pray's not all that big)

Also if you guys think it's a good idea it doesn't take me that long to set up a wiki like the one I made for noir. Come to think of it, this is probably just the revolutionary kind of class that would love something this commie...

Yah splitting up the readings is a great idea Nick. I don't know what wiki is but sure!

assuming since we had no mid-term the exam will cover the entire course, here are the readings. WARNING,ACTUALLY, i have the old syllabus so some of these page numbers are inaccurate!??
DADA: O'Pray 1-25
SURREALISM: Breton, "What is Surrealism?"
SURREALISM & PYSCHODRAMA: Adams 3-19, 92-135; O'Pray 48-57
BRAKHAGE: this is the week that is wrong on my syllabus...
BEAT CULTURE: Adams 330-68
POP ART & UNDERGROUND: www- senses of cinema, anger reading
MINIMALISM AND STRUCTURAL FILM: Adams 369-97; O'Pray 93-95
SITUATIONISM: www- Boy Scout's Guide to S.I by Tom Vague
FEMINISM: www- senses of cinema, sink or swim, webct
MINOR CINEMA: no assigned reading
AUTOBIOGRAPHY: Mekas "Notes on the New American Cinema", webct
ESSAY FILM/ CANADIAN EXPERIMENTAL DOCUMENTARY: no reading
FOUND FOOTAGE: William, Found Footage & Questions of Representations, webct.
- - - how will we organize this? i really want to learn the wiki page thing because it would be so useful to have one for this class. as for what i can contribute i have basically read all the non-text sources...i've read some of the sitney and like none of the o'pray.
i have a feeling that sitney and o'pray are less important than the sort of manifesto pieces. i'm not planning on concentrating on them unless you've all heard otherwise....?
i dont even know the format of the exam!!!

Haha... ok I'll see if I can explain it. 'wiki' is a generic term for a website that can be edited by anyone (or by registered users) I set up a wiki for my noir class. Anyone that signs up (even if they're not in the class) can edit those pages (the homepage, or any pages that are linked off of it). They can also add new pages and link them off the homepage. They do this by going to the page they want to edit, and clicking the edit button. If we wanted one for this class, I would make a completely new wiki site for us (arianne - right now you're signed up for the noir one). make sense? or still no? haha

Also feel free to mess around a bit on the noir one if you just want to see how it works, the exam's already done so we don't really need it anymore.

Oh yes, we should Wiki. Should we just start calling what readings we want to do and go from there?

Hey all, yah I can do the Dada week and the Surrealism week as well. How many do we each need to take? I think some other people (people who do not frequent this site) want to be in on this too. Is the wiki for this class set up yet? what readings is everyone else doing? And, last but not least, do you all want to get together and have a study group for this class? I think Saturday night or sometime Sunday should work for me? What do you all think?
