Hey everyone, I think it's about time to get this going.
So we've got a whole bunch of readings, a whole bunch of films with basically the same plot, and an open-note exam. I think these grapes are ripe for the stomping.
Here's how this works - each person takes a week, providing a summary of the film and the articles for the week. I'll post back with a list soon.
I think it's important that these things are concise. I'm thinking about them partially as study aids, but mostly as notes to bring into the exam. I don't know if you guys have written open-note exams before, but there's no time to read two pages of jot notes.
If you really feel you can't possibly crunch the article down into, say, four major points with a couple of sub-bullets, give us your long-winded summary but please also provide the reader's digest version. Page number references on points are nice too if people need to look up a concept to get more detail about something they don't understand.
Same deal with the movie summaries. Give us the names of the principal characters, their relationship to each other, and an outline of the key plot points. A few quick notes about important themes or moments that we talked about in class would be good too.
Any other stipulations we should add?
As for workflow, we usually sign up for weeks by replying to this message, and then once everyone's signed up and done someone compiles all our email addresses and we email the notes around.

Ok here are the sections:
1. Le jour se leve, Harvey, Place 2. Murder My Sweeet, Kaplan 3. Double Indemnity, Johnston, DeRosia 4. Mildred Pierce, Cook, Cowie 5. Gilda, Dyer ("Resistance..."), Martin 6. The Blue Dahlia, Thomas, Maltby 7. In a Lonely Place, The Big Heat, Sobchack 8. Kiss Me Deadly, Osteen, Silver 9. Touch of Evil, Kaplan, Lott 10. Klute, Gledhill (two articles) 11. Devil in a Blue Dress, Rich, Moseley, Chandler 12. The Talented Mr. Ripley, Dyer ("Postscript...") 13. Bound, Straayer, Stables
P.S. When she said reading was lighter in the second half, I hope she meant page counts, cause there are just as many if not more articles...

I'll grab #12 (Ripley/Dyer) cause I'm doing my essay on it. That's a pretty light week for reading though, so I'll pick up an essay from somewhere else that doesn't get covered.

I can probably take one. Though I didn't make it to many classes. I can do a reading or two and give a summary. But I won't have anything definitive until tuesday evening. I can do week 2 of Kaplan since I know Murder, My Sweet pretty well.

Alright with Tuesday as our deadline, let's try and get others on board with the note sharing. Try to let other people in the class know about the discussion board - Lana why don't you tell Courteny and Meg, Nick you could remind Wendy, umm who else is in the class?

If it's alright, I'd like to take week 10 with Klute and get in on this study group thing. I can have it done by Tuesday, if that's the general consensus. My e-mail is legaiswinkler@hotmail.com so if someone can send me the group e-mail list or I could just send my information to Wendy or someone to supply for the group.
By the way, my name is Lauren haha
