Hey guys
I'm thinking about starting something called Coop Labs.
The idea is a group of people would get together to experiment with a particular technique or technology, and report back to the WUFS community with their experiences.
Anyone have something they'd like to explore like this? I was thinking it'd be cool to try out some 3D filmmaking, like the good ol days in the 50s with those red-blue glasses. I have some ideas about building a rig, let me know if you'd be interested in playing with this or any other outlandish technique.
Cheers Nick

Nick,
I am interested in a 3D film of any sort. Let's definatly do something. My other thought is to make a dolly that actually works. Have big tires and with a handle.

Any dolly would be totally mega. A hotrodded shopping cart with big wheels gives us lots of suface area to mount the cameras for the 3d setup on there. Ah yes, i fleetingly mused a while ago that wufs could have in supply a couple of those homemade steadicam things or other alternate camera-holding devices Nick has mentioned here and there.

I am considering investing in a Glidecam around January, but I may just rent one for a week or so from T.O. Will keep you all in the know.

I made a 20$ steadi cam unit last year. It's kinda falling apart but it works pretty good. Anyone is welcome to borrow it.

I have a lot of English courses this year because I have to finsih my major, and I've been reading a ton of poetry. I absolutely love poetic structure - how its utlized, how it affects, how it can be thematic - and would love to explore what how examples of structures in poetry ( the ceasura, enjambment for example) could be used to benefit a alternate form of editing. I would like to do this in a series of labs, developing the idea with a group of people from one meeting to the next. hit me back.

nicki you handsome devil, i'm down for experimentation... with that 3-d stuff of course. if someone had random blue-prints or pics for make-shift steady cams and dollies etc, such devices could probably be shackled together by those filmies who happen to conveniently also have majors or minors in visual arts (uh um, me, cough cough) and thus have access to some pretty smack welding equipment. just a thought...

I was talking to some engineers at the one-minute film festival, I was supposed to email the guy but I lost his info (if you're reading this... drop me an email!)
He had a whole contingent of film-interested engineers, it'd be great to work with them on stuff like this.
