taking a hint from mr. nick, it would probably be a good idea to get things organized for the exam. maybe 1 person takes a particular film theory and puts up a summery for it? this exam is open note so having a quick summery plus any little tidbits would be good to have.

Good, good, good, let's do this. And encourage others to do it too. It's so much easier this way, ESPECIALLY since it's open note.
So to get the ball actually rolling with a list of the topics. One person, one week of readings - make sense? We can formulate an email list later and send them out a little bit closer to the exam.
Week 1: Introduction and Overview
Week 2: Early Film Theory and Aesthetics
Week 3: The Realism-Formalism Debates I: Soviet Film Theory and Practice
Week 4: The Realism-Formalism Debates II: Classical Hollywood Cinema's Aesthetics
Week 5: The Realism-Formalism Debates III: Third Cinema
Week 6: Semiotics and Structuralism
Week 7: The Concept of Ideology
Week 8: Psychoanalytic Film Theories
Week 9: Auteur Theory
Week 10: Film History and Historiography I: Reimagining "Early" Cinema
Week 11: Film History and Historiography II: Globalization's Legacy and Effects
Week 12: Cultural Studies: Stars, Genres, Audiences
Week 13: Cinema's Intermediality
Unless someone else really wants it, I will do week 12.

hey y'all.
Tarunj, the essay should be 6-8 pages (8 max).
I'll take week 4, since I've been struggling with it.
I think it would be a good idea (as someone mentioned at the end of the last class) to divide up the individual readings--that is, if we get everyone on board.

alright, so we've got 8 weeks covered. if no one else offers up to do these then some of us will have to do 2 weeks. i'm cool with that because my exam schedual is pretty easy.
so, if need be i'll take week 5.

Hey! Since there are no units left, I can briefly summarize each film, including the director, cast, year, and plot summary. I can also state which unit they were viewed in to help link to the theories.
